The cold silent treatment

Thankfully the issues that interfere with relationships are shortlived at this point. We nearing the end and there will probably more sugar coming up to make up for all the vinegar and frustration from earlier episodes.

Overcoming the difficulties of the relationship

I love how Shu Yi is clear on who she loves now and that she doesn't completely fall apart when things don't go smoothly. The other couples are together. Hoping we can see more closeness with our lead couple.

Full of vinegar and I'm enjoying it.

Our leads are finally getting a chance to be closer and spend more non-work related time with each other. I like how attentive Shi Yan is with Shu Yi. It's nice that they are not quick to jump into the physical part of their relationship yet.

Still enjoying this long drawn out drama

The difference btwn the novel and drama

In the novel, Shu Yi's main reason for pursuing Shi Yan was to get revenge on her ex whom she thought cheated on her with his niece; however, in the drama, that was not the main reason, but her ex approached her in epi 22 asking if that was the reason she was dating that "man" (she thinks he's referring to Shi Yan, while the ex is referring to some old married uncle.. that the "mistress" said she was seeing). Misunderstandings all around.

MangoTV subs cause brain damage...

Funny to see the different relationships in this drama. Hoping we get to see character growth in the drama though it's lacking in the novel. Either way, I'm loving seeing Bailu and Wang Hedi costar in a modern drama together.

Slow burn and lots of bits added that were not in the novel

Nice to see that our leads acknowledge their relationship now. Lots of typical tropes including the CEO bf saving our Shu Yi from street pervs and making it back to the hotel then parting with a chaste kiss.

It's been light fun up till this episode and things keep getting better

There is some frustration at how unresponsive Shi Yan is to Shu Yi's pursuit, but as a viewer, it's fleeting as we get to see his responses and small smalls. In the novel, her pick up lines are cringe worthy and cheesy. They're still cheesy, but off set by Bailu's endearing way of saying them.

Zheng Shu Yi is more professional here in the drama than novel

Enjoying the interaction between our leads and how they're slowly getting to know each other. Glad our girl got another chance to have a better interview with Shi Yan.

Just when we were hoping for some happiness for our couple

Damn the evil father! Of all the many xianxia dramas I've watched, I don't think I've seen one that had that much emotional damage inflicted. Let there be sweeter moments ahead (though unlikely).

Reunion in the present 500 years later

Finally, we're at the meeting point where they're reunion takes place and Cang Jiumin's intelligent and cunning way helps him learn her identity. I'm not ready for this drama to end in just a couple more episodes. There are so many parts on the editing room floor that we weren't blessed to see due to NRTA restrictions.

After 500 years...

In the "present" arc/back to 500 years, we see history has changed. The scenery and costumes are truly mesmerizing and have the xianxia feels as we enter the world of the immortals. Enjoyed this arc as we see our Tantai Jin become Cang Jiumin, a much loved and admired member of a sect.

Tantai Jin's madness

Thankful the drama did not share the extent of Tantai Jin's madness and obsession over Ye Xi Wu's death and her corpse. His battle with the general and seeing him remember and reflect on his past with YXW/LSS was another turning point of this drama.

The scene we all expected, but weren't ready for.

The wedding scene and what follows was heavier than I expected. The range acting is phenomenal. I have not been this moved for any other xianxia drama. Luo Yunxi's portrayal of Tantai Jin's existence and Li Susu's internal battle over her love and fear of him can be felt.

All the misunderstandings and pain

One thing this novel's adaptation we see that differs from other xianxia dramas is the way they lay out the story. There is no care about following past stories, instead, they take the most unconventional paths. All the complaints we see and hear about other scripts are done in an opposite manner. This will no doubt anger some viewers, but surprise others.Watching the pain our FL goes through and seeing she feels the guilt of being part of the reason one of the most upright character's death was crushing. No one cries and crumbles in grief like Bailu. She totally disregards her beautiful image and "ugly" cries in such a way that I cannot help but feel the painful sadness.
