Easy going series...

This series starts off great and sets the context story quite well and sadly written. It was quite a decent level of disappointment to see how Ni Chang emerges from adversity. Moving along the story though at the expense of good subplots which dont last for very long but could have added dimensions to the whole story a really drawn out boring middle takes up a lot of episodes. The qaulity of the essence of the story could have taken 27 episodes and not 40.

The evil one of the show remains evil all the way (I hate that when they dont get dealt with at least some of the way) and so it gets really boring the evil lead staying evil all the time. The development of a love story subplot is nice but sloooowwww.....cos he's a prince and the female lead well theyve made her look bright when she's actually quite stubborn and dumb at times. So,me repetitive characteristics of support cast e.g. xian yuang and cheng tian.....can see why this series scores like it does, its not a Fuyao but has tinges of it in it.

OK I sat down to this series and thought it had lots of promise, at episode 47, I became frustrated.

Firstly, the male and female are great in parts, inconsistency and follow through left this wonderful dramas langering for some early resolution of a good story/plot, which would have been great for a 30 Eps series instead of 66?

The more I watch these dramas the more I see - palace politics, canniving scheming bitches and pricks too but more women than men that I ponder are all chinese women like this in real I wonder????...the great romance and love relationships that come across the screen I must say are second to none - I sit there with my Hollywood indoctrinated thinking and nod my head that not even HWood could beat C-Dramas, the men actually cry and they actually dont mind looking ugly screaming and crying for their beloved lady. The same with the ladies too. The bitches in most of the series are great actresses and they stir up the juices for wanting to see them get their comeuppance or Yusss take that be-arch, but the most frustrating is the pace of the each of the dramas - there are only 3 to date that are up in my top 5 that have mastered the pace of romantic storyline - Eternal Love between Ye Hua and SuSu?Qianqian / Ashes for Love between Xaofeng & Jimni / Fuyao and Wuji in Legend of Fuyao....whoever directed those did a wonderful job of keeping ME waiting with abated breath and glued to each episode that I have had to watch them again to get the C-Drama fix and appreciation of good tv making.
In ending, The General and I had wonderful content that would have made it up there with my top 3 but the pace of the developing story was WAYYYYYY tooooooo slow......when it didn't need to be....

Rating - 6/10

In a Western city down in the Pacific Ocean watching this movie and couple more delights like it, ETERNAL LOVE has to be my ALL TIME - yes -ALL TIME best love drama ever made. Mark Chao and Yang Mi in my very experienced opinion of Western, Bollywood and Asian dramas are the - Scarlett Ohara and Rhett Butler, of Television. This series grabbed me 4 times to watch it and each time I saw different dimensions of love and hate you dont see in the first sitting. If you aren't an EtLove fan then I suggest a review of your standard of series-drama making. Yang Mi is a convincing actress when stressed, determined, stubborn, tenacious, and forthright...Mark Chao as Ye Hua in this was OUTSTANDING, you walk around for a few days seeing his face on every man you see cause he leaves such a big impression, but also the rest of the cast, fully supported the central storyline too who deserved some credits. OVERALL - this is a must see drama for the West, if it can only be distributed here it would rock the West easily....absolutely GREAT DRAMA SERIES!!!
