I have a love/hate relationship with this show.
Oh boy, I just finished Full House and MINOR SPOILERS about character development incoming…(no plot details)
The thing that repeatedly made me think about dropping this show was the fact that the Male Lead was (for the most part) a childish jerk all the way until halfway through the last episode. When the FL admitted to having feelings for him I was baffled. Usually in these shows with the “mean/jerk male lead” trope there is enough there to explain why the FL has fallen for him. I can’t say I ever understood it on her side. He had moments(rare moments) when he would treat the female lead like a fellow human who deserved respect. Those moments slightly(and I mean by like 1 or 2 percent) increased as the episodes went on. Those moments(really until halfway through the last episode) were never enough to make me convinced of their shared love. I was openly rooting against him which brings me to why I kept watching.
The second male lead, I have no memory of hearing about full house in context of SLS, but man I had it bad in this show. The second male lead was the most charming and charismatic character in the entire show. I loved almost every scene he was in. His acting was brilliant and I also appreciated that he wasn’t the completely pathetic SML that just silently stands by and supports the FL. he fights for her, which is my favorite kind of SML.
The SFL was also great, at first I thought I would hate her, but I thought her arc was handled perfectly and pitched just right. She seemed like a real human.
The FL’s terrible “friends” were really funny IMO, although they were sometimes annoying.
The last characters I want to mention are the ML’s family. I loved his grandma, she was so funny and her relationship with the FL became so so sweet. I wished there had been more development of the plot/relationship between the ML and his dad, they seemed to set it up as this major thing only to barely wrap it up in the end, which was disappointing.
The only reason why I rated this show overall as high as I did was because the chemistry between the ML and FL is really strong, so despite me not being convinced of why she falls for him, it’s obvious on the screen that they are in love and happy when they are together. It works too well to deny it.
One last note that doesn’t fit anywhere else in my review. The OST for the show was good, I enjoyed it, but there were some covers of some English songs that were really weird and bad and distracting, so that’s why I rated music so low.
I won’t be rewatching this. I do rewatch my favorites, but watching Rain be a childish jerk for over 16 hours just isn’t an experience worth repeating.
