I really have enjoyed Japanese literature - it is unique in many ways. Authors such as Kayaka Murata, Mieko Kawakami, Yoko Ogawa, Karuki Murakami - among many more whose stories border on surrealism or are surrealist, write stories that have fascinated me.
This movie is along that line - it is not surrealistic but the story has an absurdity to it that is delightful and provocative and leaves the viewer to reflect on the needs of the individual verses the group. I will seek out more films by this director.
