I'm ngl, 70% of my character development is prob through watching J-dramas, Kdramas, and anime since I was 10 years old.
Some of my favourite dramas are Kingdom, My Mister, Hospital Playlist, and Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
As much as I love the good old cliche and cringy rom-com dramas, I need storytelling to be a bit more advanced these days. I cannot sit through another couple causing unnecessary problems in the drama when they can solve all the misunderstandings in a single conversation. If the main plot device is the main lead holding back on communication cus they had trauma; sir, you do not need a girlfriend, you need a therapist. They tryna make things all sentimental and mysterious when it's just lazy writing. T_T
Nowadays, any categories under thriller (action thriller, horror thriller, etc) I will watch. I am a sucker for apocalyptic, monster fantasy films and tv shows. I also love slice of life shows. Bonus points if they tackle social issues in a creative and compelling way.
I like nuanced writing, I believe that the small details and consistent character development can make a basic plot become so much more memorable. Shock factors also make me sit on the edge of my seat.
